VOLUCAM
FEATURES
LIVE VIDEO MONITORING
For low-latency direct-to-display monitoring, the Volucam has a 12G-SDI video output capable of streaming Full HD or Ultra HD video at up to 60fps. A tri-level sync input allows the SDI signal to be synchronized to a sync reference, in the case of a live production environment. A broad ecosystem of infrastructure exists for transporting, multiplexing and displaying 12G-SDI video signals, allowing many cameras' live streams to be simultaneously displayed on a master studio monitor. Live video streaming is also supported through the 10GbE interface, and the bandwidth used for this can be tailored by adjusting resolution and frame rate of the live video stream.
SIMPLIFIED CONFIGURATION AND OPERATION
The Volucam makes the setup of a synchronized multi-camera video recording system much simpler than ever. A typical configuration involves connecting several cameras to a 10GbE network switch, and using a single PC as a control station. SDI monitoring equipment can be used for low-latency monitoring. Client software is provided for the control station, or the Volucam SDK can be used to integrate the commands into custom software applications. The client software configures the cameras as needed, initiates recordings, and displays live video for real-time monitoring. Once recordings are completed, the cameras begin transmitting their files to a network-accessible shared folder or NAS, where they can be accessed by third party processing software.
VIDEO CAMERA WITH INTERNAL RECORDING
The Volucam™ is a compact, multi-format, variable frame rate video camera with internal RAW video recording. A variety of CMOS sensors are supported, allowing options for high resolution video up to 26.2MP or high frame rate HD video recording at over 300fps. Easy to configure and operate, this camera is ideal for synchronized multi-camera video recording applications such as volumetric video capture studios, light field capture arrays and multi-angle motion analysis systems.
HIGH PERFORMANCE IMAGE SENSORS
A variety of Volucam models are available featuring different high-quality CMOS image sensors from Sony and Gpixel. Resolution options range from 0.4MP to 26.2MP , with most models featuring electronic global shutter capability to eliminate motion artifacts. These sensors support continuously variable frame rates into the 100's of frames per second, and the active resolution can be adjusted arbitrarily up to the maximum for each sensor, allowing different aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9, 1:1, and more). The various sensors feature optical formats from 1/3" to 1.2".
INTERCHANGEABLE LENSES
The Volucam features a native C-mount lens interface which allows easy interchangeability between hundreds of compact lenses available today. C-mount lenses are commonly used in industrial and surveillance imaging. Adapters are available to attach other types of lenses such as photography optics. An adapter for Canon EF-mount lenses is available which integrates with the camera to remotely adjust the focus and aperture on the EF-mount lens. Third party adapters are available to adapt C-mount to B4, PL, Canon FD, and other mount types.
FAST 10G ETHERNET
One of the most convenient features of the Volucam is its 10G Ethernet connectivity. This interface is used for all configuration and operational control commands, and also for streaming live video to the control software. Best of all, this interface is used to rapidly transfer video recordings from the Volucam into a network-accessible shared folder or NAS. An SFP+ port is provided, allowing either copper cabling or long-distance optical connections with multi-mode or single-mode fiber.
INTERNAL VIDEO RECORDING
A built-in high-performance solid state drive stores recordings until they can be transferred through the 10GbE interface for further processing. The capacity can be up to 7680GB, allowing long clips (or many shorter clips) to be recorded before the storage fills up. Video files are stored in a RAW format with up to 12-bit quality - color video is not demosaiced until further into the workflow. Recordings can be uncompressed or optionally compressed using a lossless codec. Compression allows smaller file sizes, leading to longer possible recording times and faster file transfer times through the network.
MULTI CAMERA SYNCHRONIZATION
Synchronization is critical in multi-camera arrays, especially in volumetric capture applications. The Volucam allows many cameras to be shutter-synchronized as well as time-synchronized so that all frames captured at the same time will have the same timestamps to correlate the images by. The Volucam supports IEEE-1588 precision time protocol through the 10GbE interface. Multiple cameras can be synchronized to a grandmaster clock, or one camera can be operated as a master and distribute time to the other cameras itself. Other synchronization options include a SMPTE LTC input and GPIO pins for local synchronization between cameras.
